3 short experimental films
Over the past few years Denis McArdle, Anthony Kelly & David Stalling have worked together on a series of short experimental films. These short films come from combining their different backgrounds. This dvd, released by Songway Films collects three of these films together for the first time. Fragility, loss and memory are three of the themes explored by the artists within the pieces. Working out from the discussion of a basic idea, each film was then shot quickly, usually within a day, using the minimum of set-up and equipment. Often the editing process revealed the structure and form of the piece and the subsequent cut was then sound tracked. All three pieces use unconventional soundtracks. While 'Room' & 'Undertow' developed out from this shooting & editing technique, 'Toxin' was loosely based on a poem of the same name given by poet Patrick Chapman and includes visual representations of the text within the film.
