Invisible Resistances is a new CD of improvised explorations featuring piano by Izumi Kimura and violin & viola by Cora Venus Lunny - nine dazzling improvisations that further push the dialogue between these two performers creating new sonic experiences that are intimate, yet bold and elemental.

Both virtuosos on their instruments, they have - as one can readily hear - a deep knowledge of the history of music interpretation composed over the centuries. That alone is already an enormous achievement! This music was recorded in the early spring of 2021.
We were walking in a tunnel we didn’t know how long.
With eyes closed we listened inwards to our silence.
From this space an interaction began.
A single light became thousands of sea fireflies and the stars in the deep sky.
We listened to what have been lodged inside us for more than our lifetime, very old melodies, 
celestial stories, the tide, the wind, invisible forces and a chant.
We improvised.
Something happened in this space which we didn’t know till we listened to it back, much later.
3 hours of music was recorded spontaneously and now we have made this album for you.

About the artists:
 
Contemporary pianist and improviser Izumi Kimura explores sound and silence, abstract and concrete, improvisation, interpretation and composition, drawing inspiration from life and the nature. Born in Yokohama, Japan, Izumi Kimura has been playing the piano since the age of four, moving to Ireland after graduating from Toho University of Music in Tokyo. She has worked with musicians from both classical and jazz fields spanning RTÉ Symphony Orchestra and Crash Ensemble through to jazz trumpeter Itaru Oki. Izumi’s current projects includes duos and trios with Barry Guy and Gerry Hemingway and her field recording project with Cora Venus Lunny and Anthony Kelly. Folding, a recent vinyl LP and CD of collective compositions featuring piano by Izumi Kimura, violin and viola by Cora Venus Lunny and field recordings by Anthony Kelly, was described as ‘startlingly beautiful’ and ‘an ear opening bolt from the blue’ by Cormac Larkin, 
The Irish Times.
 
Cora Venus Lunny is an improvising violinist, violist and composer with extensive performing, touring and recording experience in contemporary, classical, improvised and folk musics. A member of Yurodny and Fovea Hex, they frequently perform with Crash Ensemble, improvise solo and in groups, and in free duo with Izumi Kimura. A fascination with consciousness, time, groove and the human and metaphysical realities of music drives their compositional curiosity.
